How today's question is picked
The question comes from a fixed list of 211 and depends only on the date. Your browser reads today's date and picks the matching question, so a whole team or class sees the same one without anyone sending it around. It changes at midnight in your own time zone.
Each day takes the next question in the list, so you won't see a repeat until all 211 have come up. That is about 7 months of mornings before the list starts again.
Question of the day for work
A daily question gives a team two minutes of easy talk before the agenda starts. It works best when every answer is quick and nobody has to share anything personal.
The For work category has 51 questions like "What is your favorite snack to keep at your desk?" and "Do you prefer working early in the morning or late in the day?". The Icebreakers and What if questions work well with coworkers too.
- Stand-up or team meeting: ask the question first, and give each person about 30 seconds.
- Team chat channel: post the question each morning with Copy, and let people answer when they log on.
- Whiteboard: write it by the coffee machine and let answers pile up during the day.
- Remote calls: share your screen with the card, or press Share and drop the link in the call chat.
Funny questions of the day
On a slow Friday or a long week, a silly question lands better than a serious one. The Funny category has 57 of them, like "What animal would be the rudest if it could talk?" and "Which household object would make the worst superhero?".
Today's question can come from any of the 4 categories. To get only funny ones, open Options in the generator below, pick Funny under Categories and press Generate.
Question of the day for class and home
Teachers use a daily question as a warm-up or an exit ticket. Put the card on the board with Full screen and give students a minute to think. What if questions such as "What would you do if you could teleport anywhere for one hour?" get even quiet students talking.
At home, try it at dinner or in the car. Set Difficulty to Easy in the generator for questions anyone can answer. For questions written for younger children, open the For kids category of our random question generator.
Keep a streak
Press Mark as answered after you answer, and the card shows how many days in a row you have done it, plus your best run. Miss a day and the count starts again at 1 the next time you answer.
Your streak is kept in this browser only. We don't collect it, so it won't follow you to another phone or computer, and clearing your browser data resets it.
When you need more than one question
For a new group that needs to warm up, our icebreaker questions page has ideas for work, kids and friends. For a bigger mix, including deep, ESL and couples questions, use the random question generator. For a quick vote, try our would you rather questions.
Questions and answers
What is a question of the day?
It's one short question shared by a group each day, often at the start of a meeting, a class or a family meal. Everyone answers the same question, which makes it a quick way to learn something new about each other.
What are good questions of the day for work?
Questions with quick, low-stakes answers work best, like "What was your first job ever?" or "What music, if any, helps you focus?". The For work category on this page has 51 of them.
Does everyone see the same question?
Yes. The question depends only on the date, so everyone who opens this page on the same day sees the same one. Nobody has to send it around.
When does the question change?
At midnight in your own time zone. Someone in another time zone may see the next question a few hours before or after you.
Will a question repeat?
Not until all 211 questions have come up, which takes about 7 months. In the generator below, no question repeats within a round either.
Is my streak saved?
Only in this browser. It isn't sent to us, so it stays on this device and goes away if you clear your browser data.
Is it free?
Yes. It's free, runs in your browser and needs no sign up.
